About Our Organization

Special Olympics Oregon serves the largest disability population in the state and this year they will celebrate their 40th Anniversary. Special Olympics Oregon provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports to more than 10,000 participants with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy. There are more than 100,000 Oregonians who need our support and could benefit from Special Olympics Oregonís year-round programs. Additional information can be found at www.soor.org. In Oregon, Special Olympics serves the largest disability population in the state by offering year-round sport training and competition programs with 15 Olympic-type sports at 29 statewide Regional Competitions and 1 Summer State Games, at no cost to our athletes or their families. In the Special Olympics program, people with intellectual disabilities enjoy the rare opportunity to be treated as people, not just as disabled. Through sport, our athletes gain self-confidence, social competency, and other enhanced skills, both physical and social.
